About
Moody Bible Institute
Moody Bible Institute’s history started with Emma Dryer, a gifted educator and teacher in Illinois. Dryer began meeting with several Chicago residents who prayed that evangelist Dwight L. Moody would establish a new school in Chicago where men and women could be transformed by the clear, practical teaching of God’s Word. In 1886 D. L. Moody forged a coalition of Chicago business leaders who supported a vision for a Bible training center in an urban setting. The Chicago Evangelization Society would later be renamed The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago.
Moody Bible Institute’s undergraduate Chicago campus eventually spawned four other institutions of higher learning:
- Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago
- Moody Aviation in Spokane, Washington
- Moody Theological Seminary in Plymouth, Michigan
- Moody Online, serving undergraduate and graduate online students
Today, over 50,000 Moody alumni are found around the world, and 260,000 alums have called Moody their home for biblical higher education since our founding.
